    Reporting To: Senior Finance Manager

    We have an exciting opportunity for a Management Accountant to join the URBN Shared Services team in Europe. Strong numeric, organisation and interpersonal skills will be essential to the role. The Management Accountant will play an essential role within our growth as a shared service provider to both of our brands; Urban Outfitters and Anthropologie. This role will give the right person the chance to work in an experienced team and you will in turn be given the encouragement to learn and develop your skill base.

    Currently Urban Outfitters & Anthropologie have over 70 stores across the UK, Republic of Ireland, Denmark, Sweden, Germany and Belgium and continue to expand across Europe in the next 12-24 months.

    Urban Outfitters and Anthropologie are fully responsible for their own buying and merchandising. Every other function sits within Shared Services as a part of the wider URBN European division. Within this division sits Finance, IT, Supply Chain, Logistics, Property, Construction, Facilities Management, Real Estate, HR & Talent Acquisition.

    Ideally coming from a retail background, you have likely started studying towards a professional accounting qualification (ACCA, ACA or CIMA) and thrive working in a fast-paced dynamic retail environment. You will bring an understanding of profit and loss account analysis, as well as knowledge of the balance sheet and certain key sections within it (e.g. Fixed Assets, VAT etc.)

    Job Responsibilities:

    Month End

    P&Ls and Balance Sheets

    • Preparing sales review, analysis and reporting
    • Preparation of retail returns reserve
    • Posting of prepayments & accruals for property costs and store opening accruals and preparing reports/analysis for these areas
    • Review of P&L to check for errors and irregular patterns and provide explanations on P&L variances
    • Assist with preparation of reporting schedules to be sent out to the management team
    • Ensure preparation and completion of all balance sheet reconciliations and dealing with any queries following Senior Finance Manager review

    Property

    • Month end journals including review and analysis of property accounts (including but not limited to rent, CAM, rates and utilities) and participating in reviews with senior management.
    • Preparation of property payment run (for rent, CAM and rates) ensuring payments are accurate and made on time
    • Assist (with help from senior management and the US office) with setting up/amending new leases in Property Manager alongside assisting in review of leases to understand obligations and rent reviews/increases
    • Quarterly proforma rent VAT reclasses
    • Maintaining a good relationship with external Utilities broker and ensuring new store utilities set up correctly

    Annual budget and reforecast

    • Budgeting and forecasting for property costs which you responsible for in the month end tasks
    • Entering all budget numbers into Oracle Budgeting software.
    • Providing reconciliations between current years spend and budget amounts

    Year End

    • Assisting with the preparation of the audit files for all European entities
    • Assist in answering audit queries

    Other

    • Reconciling AP outstanding items
    • Helping juniors with queries
    • Coding invoices
    • Other ad hoc tasks as requested

    Requirements

    The role is heavily management accounting focused and the successful candidate should be technically strong and be skilled in analytics and problem solving. The role should provide support, coaching and mentoring to junior staff and assist in streamlining and improving processes.

    We also look for the below:

    • Part qualified in ACCA, ACA, CIMA or equivalent
    • Minimum 2:1 Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
    • Experience of MS Excel Skills and other MS Programmes such as Outlook, Word etc.
    • Can work to tight deadlines and manage expectations
    • Has strong communication skills and is organised
    • Has a positive attitude and keenness to develop
    • Is proactive and takes initiative
    • Is personable and works well in a team environment
    • Has strong attention to detail
